Australia Launches Anti-Dumping Probe on Chinese Hot-Rolled Coil Imports

Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of certain hot-rolled coil (HRC) products from China. The investigation aims to determine whether these imports are being sold at unfairly low prices, causing harm to the domestic steel industry.

The products under scrutiny include hot-rolled sheets with a thickness of up to 4.75 mm and hot-rolled coils with a thickness exceeding 4.75 mm. These products are classified under various Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers.

The investigation was launched at the request of local steel producer Bluescope Steel Limited and will cover the period between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024.

If the investigation finds evidence of dumping and injury to the domestic industry, anti-dumping duties may be imposed on Chinese HRC imports. This could impact the pricing and competitiveness of Chinese steel products in the Australian market.
