Egypt Launches Anti-Dumping Probe on Turkish and Chinese Steel Products

The Egyptian Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of Cold Rolled Coil (CRC), Hot-Dip Galvanized (HDG) steel, and Pre-Painted Galvanized Iron (PPGI) from Turkey and China.

This investigation was triggered by a complaint filed by domestic steel producers Al-Obour Metal Industries Company and Kama Metal Coating and Processing Company. These companies allege that imports of these steel products from Turkey and China are being dumped at unfairly low prices, causing significant harm to the Egyptian steel industry.

The products under investigation fall under various Harmonized System (HS) codes, including 7209, 7210, 7211, 7212, 7225, and 7226.

In the first nine months of 2024, Turkey exported 16,924 metric tons (MT) of CRC, 7,495 MT of HDG, and 15,029 MT of PPGI to Egypt. China, on the other hand, exported 79,780 MT of CRC and 37,616 MT of HDG to the country during the same period.

The Egyptian government will now conduct a thorough investigation to determine whether dumping has indeed occurred and if it has caused material injury to the domestic steel industry. If the investigation confirms these allegations, anti-dumping duties may be imposed on imports of these products from Turkey and China.
