ArcelorMittal Poland Reduces Emissions with New Hydrogen Furnaces

ArcelorMittal Poland, a subsidiary of global steel producer ArcelorMittal, has commissioned new hydrogen furnaces at its Krakow site. The project represents a PLN 52 million ($12.5 million) investment.

These new furnaces replace older dome furnaces and allow the company to eliminate ammonia from the annealing process. This change also shortens the annealing process itself, resulting in lower consumption of both natural gas and electricity. Consequently, carbon emissions during annealing are reduced by 50%.

This is not ArcelorMittal Poland's only hydrogen-related project at the Krakow site. The company is also planning to build a hydrogen production plant in partnership with Polish energy company Linde Gaz Polska, with an investment exceeding PLN 100 million ($24.1 million).
